I drove from Graz, Austria west to Salzburg, where I spent a very nice day and night. I then continued west into the southern part of Germany, then south through Innsbruck and into northern Italy, where I spent three days in Bolzano, followed by two nights in Turin and two nights in Venice.

As I drove through a valley in the Alps, with the mountains rising up from either side, I passed many beautiful towns and villages, each clearly marked by a tall church steeple or bell tower. I also saw many castles perched on high hills and mountain outcroppings. I loved it.

In Bolzano, I took a cable car high over the city to San Genesio, where I began an all day hike through beautiful mountain meadows. I could look down and see beautiful Bolzano nestled in a valley of the Alps. This is wine country and looking down from the cable car I saw a multitude of vineyards.

Bolzano also is home to Oetzi, the ice man. Oetzi is a prehistoric man found perfectly preserved in the Alps. He has taught us more about prehistoric man than anything found before or since.

I hope you enjoy my photos of Italy.
