Mainz, Germany has what they call the "fifth season", which is Festival. It
begins in November and culminates around the same time as New Orleans' Mardi
Gras and Rio's Festival.

During Festival, people in Mainz gather in the streets to sing songs and wear
some pretty outrageous costumes. Wine and good soup is sold from street stands
and people have a good time. It's also a time to poke fun or mildly rebel
against local politicians and city government.

Some of the old buildings in this part of Mainz date back to the 1400's.

The city is clean and the streets are safe to walk at night.
